Glenkilrie larder team

We are Andrew and Lauren Houstoun, and Glenkilrie Larder is our family run business, based in Highland Perthshire. This business venture started in 2019 because we have a deep passion to produce high quality red meat. We are on a mission to bridge the gap between the consumer and the producer. Highlighting the positive impact, the farm animals we rear have on your nutrition, the resident wildlife and the environment around us. Personally, our business has also allowed me to work from home and raise our three children, Alasdair, Ellen and Duncan. So far, it has been a wonderful learning experience and pleasure to build connections with our customers, butchers and other industry professionals. We have so many exciting plans for Glenkilrie Larder and hope you stick around to see what we get up to!

Andrew was raised here, at Glenkilrie and I’m from a family farm, in Aberdeenshire. Andrew is the third generation of his family to farm at Glenkilrie, currently working in the farm business with his father David and mother Morag. The farm also has one fulltime employee Neil, who has worked at Glenkilrie since 1998.

Andrew’s main roles include looking after cattle and the herd of red deer. Whilst David concentrates more on the sheep enterprise.

After leaving school Andrew studied Agriculture at SRUC Craibstone. On completing his HND Andrew spent time working away from home and travelling New Zealand, Canada and North America before returning to Glenkilrie aged 25.

I went straight from School to Robert Gordon University to study adult nursing. On completion of my degree, I worked within NHS Grampian up to senior staff nurse level in Medical High Dependency.

Andrew and I were both keen members of Young Farmers. Andrew a Bankfoot Young Farmer and I was a Turriff Young Farmer.

Andrew and I met in the February of 2016 at a young farmers dance through a mutual friend. We quickly realised that we wanted to spend our lives together and within 6 months I had moved to Glenkilrie. In a summarised version we got engaged, married, put red deer on the farm, had our first son Alasdair, started Glenkilrie Larder and went on to have another two children Ellen and Duncan. It has been a busy 8 years!
